The term biometrics in the information technology is used for the safety, avoiding fraudulent activities and to identify a person with his uniqueness. There are two types of biometrics available, one is the physiological and behavioral is the other.

Measurement and analysis based on the shape of the person is termed as Physiological kind of Biometrics. The identification is obtained by fingerprints, iris recognition, face recognition, DNA and palm geometry.

Measurement and analysis based on the behavior of the person is called as Behavioral kind of Biometrics. It may include the voice, gait, and typing rhythm. Behaviometrics is the other name for the behavioral biometrics.

The identification of a person by behavioral method is performed with the help of the voice patterns analysis device. The device consists of microphone, sound recorder. The voice of the person is stored in it. Then it compares it with the biometric database which is stored in the database and makes verification. There are some drawbacks in this method. The authentication fails sometimes. When the voice of the person is affected by cold or throat infection, there may be change in the voice as result of it the same person’s access may be denied.

Another setback of the biometrics is its cost. It is relatively costly when compared to the other devices. Also the right device has to be chosen by the companies for better results.

The behavioral biometrics makes use of the person’s signature as a unique identity. The person whose identity has to be checked is asked to sign on a tablet or paper which is placed on the sensitive sensor. The sensor captures the signature and verifies it with the one in the database. It takes only 5 seconds to verify.
