Business Lawyers and Attorneys For Hire Must Remember That Law is a Business First
Often, lawyers pride themselves in their extra meticulous job they do in processing the law, writing up contracts, and giving accurate advice, but in reality what clients really wants is great service and they want to make sure that you understand their business model, and how they operate their particular enterprise. Even if a lawyer does all that, that doesn’t mean they will make money in their law firm.
You see, a law firm is first a business, and second it is a profession. Many times lawyers fall down in the management of their business, even though they are some of the sharpest and brightest lawyers practicing in their niche. It seems unfortunate that lawyers can be so smart and bright on one hand and in such lousy businesspeople on another. (not all but a good many of them).
Indeed, the better the lawyer, sometimes the worse the problem. This is because they are so busy helping clients and doing their job to the best of their ability, they simply have no time to market or manage their practice. You can see how this might happen, and it is much more common than you might believe.
However, in reality “no time to market or manage,” their practice is no excuse. Speaking of which, a lawyer that gives legal advice to businessmen and entrepreneurs, who cannot run their own business and does not understand what it takes to run a business is of little value to the fast moving, hard hitting, take-no-prisoners entrepreneur. I surely hope you will consider all this and the ramifications for your law firm, and the services you provide. Think on it.
