Donkey Kong Country Review
Rare Video Games has developed a new platform for the hit video game Donkey Kong Country. Donkey Kong Country features Donkey Kong himself teaming up with Diddy Kong to deliver non-stop action right to your living room. This game was released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo. Donkey Kong Country and was an instant hit in the video games business. People of all ages loved to play the game and it now lives on as an SNES classic.
Game Play:
The main object of the game is to retrieve the Kong’s banana horde that is stolen and passing through the 39 different levels to face and defeat King K. Rool. Passing and getting through different levels is always fun and exciting. Each level has a theme and consist of different activities like swimming or riding in mining carts and swinging form one vine to another vine. Players loose a life when they get caught hit by an enemy or they can fall off a cliff. And when all the lives are gone then it’s game over for Donkey Kong. But players have a chance and get bonus lives if they collect banana scattered at the different levels, find balloons, and the golden tokens shaped of animals are also scattered. Some can even win additional lives by passing through secret tunnels that lead to a bonus game where the players get a chance to play again with bonus lives.
There are different levels of the game in which the player can take the assistance of different animals to get through the level and these animals are found by breaking open the crates. The animals that can assist them are also given special names which make the player more excited into playing these video games.
There are many different characters that have joined Donkey Kong on his quest. They are:
- Rambi the Rhino
- Winky the Frog
- Enguarde the Swordfish
- Expresso the Ostrich
- Squawks The Parrot
Different animals help the players in different ways and according to the type of level they are in. And these animals can also help you get access to bonus games which makes the players yearn for more. Players also have a choice of switching form the strong Donkey Kong to the Diddy Kong counterpart which is more agile and much faster than Donkey and can also tackle multiple enemies in one cartwheel.One or two players can play the game and the players can make a choice between 2 modes of game play, known as the Team and Contest. In the contest mode players take turns in passing these levels and the one who reaches the highest level faster is the winner. While when the players play as a team they try to help each other out as one player controls Donkey Kong and the other player controls Diddy Kong. This way the players who are new can easily learn from the experience of the other players. There is also a map for the players to keep track of player’s progress. And between each level the players take control of any character they choose on the map screen.
The number of bananas collected and the animal tokens that are taken plus the number of lives remaining are constantly flashed on the screen so that the players know their position and play accordingly.
