Doing an electricity comparison is really easy and can potentially save you several hundred pounds a year, especially if you have been with the same supplier for several years.

In order to stay competitive, electric suppliers are often introducing new tariffs to stay competitive, but the chances are if you are an existing customer you will not be moved to the cheaper tariff and this is why it is good to conduct an electricity comparison at least once a year.

The steps are really simple whichever comparison site you use:

Step One: Enter your postcode. This enables the electricity price comparison site to find all tariffs that are available in your area

Step 2: Enter details about your current service. Usually you need to enter the name of your supplier, the tariff that you are currently on (this is usually displayed somewhere on your bill. Finally you enter your monthly usage/payment. I recommend you take a meter reading and calculate your usage as if you pay monthly this is likely to be based on estimated usage

Step 3: Tell the electricity comparison site the type of tariffs you are interested in e.g., a fixed rate (where you are guaranteed a fixed price per unit), green energy (energy generated in more energy efficient ways) or just find the cheapest. You can also select how you wish to pay.

Step 4: Sit back and let the electricity comparison site conduct its search.

And that’s really all there is to it. Before you decide to switch it is always worth visiting the new supplier’s website and ensuring that the electricity comparison site has given you the correct numbers, and then you are on your way to saving money.

Using tips like these I have been able to cut my bills by over 3000 pounds a year. You can slash your bills too.
