Dealing With Negative Feedback on eBay
People are drawn to eBay because of its established feedback system. Buyers are initially hesitant to purchase an item online because of the risks involved but as soon as they understand the meaning of the feedback system, they are more confident with their transactions.
All sellers especially those who have been with eBay for many years now have large quantities of feedback to their credit. Feedbacks are supposed to be a buyer’s impartial review on how his/her transaction went through with a particular seller. Is the shipment fast? Is the item received described accurately by the seller? These and other questions are the basis of a seller’s feedback rating. On the contrary, a negative feedback can hurt the sales and credibility of a seller.
Negative feedback in eBay can slow down the business of any seller. Knowing that positive feedback is much more favored than a rating lower than 90, the seller’s success is doomed. In this case, a seller has got to do one important thing and that is to avoid negative feedback at all times. The seller can post on her information or profile page and on the item description that she is willing to negotiate with the buyer should there be any complaints or concerns over the item bought or received. Most buyers are open to negotiations. This will result in a win-win situation for the seller and the customer.
It is up to the seller how she handles negative feedbacks but it is a mistake to harass customers because they left her a negative feedback. She should stick to the facts and point out every complaint a customer has against her by emphasizing that those issues were carefully documented in the item’s description. A seller must make sure that she has proof of the transaction arrangements which were acknowledged by the customer. If indeed a seller made a mistake, she should apologize for it. She should mention that she would have wanted to rectify the situation if only she was given a chance to do so.
Reputation is important in eBay and this is easy to earn as long as a seller maintains the right attitude and professionalism in the way she handles things, be it receiving a positive or a negative feedback.
