How to Cluster Your Keywords For Massive Results!
What are keywords? Sure, they are something you type into Google to get a search result, but what are they really? To you, as a marketer, they show buyers intent. If someone types “Cheap Korean DVDs” you can be very sure that that person’s intent is to buy a Korean DVD. If you were in that market, you would be laughing.
Keywords are extremely important because they link you to your prospect. If you own a sports company, you want to have all the keywords that link that person to your online store.
I use “sports shop” because it is generic, and a great example of what I’m about to get into.
So you own an online sports shop, should you simply bid on 10,000 sports related keywords with one generic advert? Not if you want to make a decent living you shouldn’t!
Not only do keywords show buyers intent, they show specifically what they are interested in. If someone types in “Rugby Balls” don’t show them your “Boby’s Sports Ware, 90% off!” advert. No one is going to click it. But, what if you showed them “Looking for Rugby Balls? Boby’s Sports Ware 90% off!”. Do you see the difference? How many people do you think will click the first ad and buy, as opposed to the second?
Your job as a marketer is to find a prospect’s need, and give them EXACTLY what they want. Don’t confuse them with generic BS. Give them EXACTLY what they want and they will from you.
So, instead of the 10,000 keywords, what should you have? 10,000 keywords clustered into specific groups, with a specific Ad Variation for each group. Why do you think Google has “Ad Groups”? It’s for this very reason.
If you have multiple products, then each keyword should be grouped based on those products. Give each product its own keywords, its own ad copy and its own landing page.
Conversely, if you are selling the same product, you should still cluster your keywords. Why? Because keywords also show you how people want to be sold to. “Easiest way to pick up women” is different to “pick up women”. As is “Specific Money Making Tips” as opposed to “Money Making Tips”. Your ad copy needs to reflect this. Speak directly TO them, not at them.
I will go into Ad copy in future articles, but until then, CLUSTER YOUR KEYWORDS!
To your success!
