While website owners bury their heads in their screens day after day working diligently to promote their websites, many are unknown to their neighbors. The very people and websites that might just be the easiest to get links from could be right outside your door.

Joel has an import gift shop he had been promoting on the web. His store is located in an antique and gift mall. One day while talking to one of his neighbor stores the owner told him he had an antique information and history site where he ran a live auction. Joel checked out the site late and found the page rank was a 6 (pretty good considering Joel’s site was a 3.) Joel asked his neighbor if he would link to his site and the neighbor agreed. That got him thinking.

After a day walking up and down his street Joel got seven more great and relevant inbound links and one from the local chamber of commerce and two neighborhood business promotional organizations.
