The Charismatic Shiba Inu Personality
The Shiba Inu Personality – Friend or Foe?
The Shiba Inu with their charismatic personality may just well be one of the most interesting, entertaining and unfortunately challenging dogs one could ever own.
While many feel this dog is not for the novice dog owner, with certain needs and environmental requirements met and with the appropriate training, this dog with it’s bigger than life personality can be a joy to add to most any family.
The Shiba Inu Personality – Understanding Their Complexity
Of Japanese origin, the Shiba was bred originally for hunting both big and small game. Their primary task was to flush game out the brush and bushes. They were bred to be independent, agile and extremely intelligent. These traits have been passed down throughout the years and still dictate much of this dog’s personality.
These personality traits come with some tendencies that require some understanding and management skills.
The Stubborn Independence
An independent, well adjusted person is respected and admired. They achieve this independence through discipline and life experiences. An independent, undisciplined child is a burden and difficult to live with. This holds true with the Shiba dog. Raised from a puppy without the appropriate training, this dog will act out, rule the household and can be a strain to live with.
Agile and Energetic – Entertaining or Destructive?
With agility comes an high level of energy. Understanding your Shiba Inu’s unique energy level and appropriately managing it will bring you a level of appreciation of what this unique dog breed is capable of. Leave this child to their own devices, well that can be a recipe for disaster and destruction.
Intelligence – Smarter Than The Average Dog
Really, this is a highly intelligent breed of dog. Knowing what your Shiba is capable of is necessary to maintain control of who is the “top dog” in your home. Once your Shiba understands there is only one top dog and that is you, harmony and peace will return to your home. When your Shiba dog has this understanding tucked into his smart little brain, he will reward you with his quick obedience and lightning fast learning skills.
While not the easiest dog to own, with some understanding of the Shiba Inu Personality, this unique dog breed is entertaining, captivating, loyal and highly intelligent.
I have owned my Shiba Inu, Tess, for thirteen very interesting years. She remains active, healthy and shows no signs of slowing down. I struggled with her need to rule our home for quite some time before coming across the resources to help me understand her needs.
