Busy Little Furry Thing Holds Oxygen Reserves In Liver

The beaver is a busy little animal found in the Northern Hemisphere and famous in Canada for being the national animal. It can hold its breath under water for at least 20 minutes while some sources suggest that it can do so for twice that amount of time. It seems they are able to slow down their heart rates when they are under the water and then use oxygen that has been stored in the liver. Freak! They are very good swimmers even though they are rather slow when on land. Beavers take advantage of this swimming superiority by building lodges that can only be entered from underwater effectively preventing predators from reaching them when inside.

Famous Reptile Has More Than One Trick In Its Bag

The chameleon is quite famous for its ability to change its color and adapt its camouflage. It is also well known for its long sticky tongue. But there is more! Did you know that unlike many other kinds of lizards it cannot regrow its tail if broken or chopped off? That is because it has a special kind of tail that enables it to wrap itself around branches and facilitate its climbing up trees. Even more uncanny is its ability to simultaneously focus each eye in a separate direction giving him the opportunity to get a true 360 degrees vision all around its body. Very useful!

Large Reptile Lets Brain Freeze But Not Nose When Temperature Drops

American alligators which are found in Florida and other southern states of America will usually hibernate when temperatures drop below 70 degrees Fahrenheit. At that time they will stop to intake food and move very little if at all. If the temperature gets even colder and freezes over then it will actually move up from its hibernation nest in the water and let its nostrils peak out from the water while letting its head and the rest of its body freeze below the ice. They have to ability to remain as such for months but in the most severe cases they usually only remain trapped in the ice for a few days.
