Goal Setting – The Value of Goal Setting
There’s an old saying in sports that says “You miss 100% of the shots you never take.” In other words, we need to set goals and attempt to reach them if we want to succeed. Not setting up goals will most likely mean no successes.
Some might argue that having goals doesn’t guarantee success… and that’s true too. But here’s the difference:
If we take 2 archers firing arrows as an example. Archer A can fire randomly into a field hitting wherever it lands… totally ineffective. Archer B can aim to hit a bull’s eye. They both may not hit the bull’s eye each time, but at least archer B tries and will hit the bull’s eye sometimes.
How does this correlate to you health?
Let’s compare this with 2 persons, John and Kathy, who want to be healthy.
John doesn’t bother setting goals for himself. He goes on about his daily routines and lies down his bed at night thinking he forgot to do anything about his health today.
The Result? John’s lack of goals has no direction and thus no success to gain more health.
Kathy, on the other hand, decided to commit eating 5-6 balanced meals per day as her goals. Some days she meets her goal, other days she doesn’t.
The Result? Kathy may not hit her goals all the time, but at least she hits it some of the time.
There is a grand differences in result between people who do and don’t set goals. You need goals to monitor your success and to know if you failed or if you succeeded.
Visualize Clearly and Often!
Wanting a perfect body is one thing, achieving it another. If you want to have a lean body figure, or just want to gradually lose weight, design your body in your mind first, before you start to work out. It can be the fuel for the engine, called workout. You cannot achieve a perfect body if you don’t already know what a perfect body means to you. Visualize the body you want, or any other goal for that matter, clearly and often.
How? Take 10 minutes where you are sure you will not be disturbed by other people or phone calls. Get comfortable, relax and begin to dream about the goal you have in mind. How will it look like and be when you achieved it? Visualize it. Be specific. How will you calves look like, your lower legs, upper legs, butt, stomach, chest, shoulders, neck and your face. Then simply visualise this image as often as you can throughout the day, with a minimum of 3 times per day.
Goals are important! Even though this is debatable, it is proven to make the path towards the results you want an easier one. Losing weight or leading a more healthy life isn’t just a physical journey, it is also a spiritual journey, and both can help each other. Your spiritual mindset can help you in your physical performances, and your physical performances can help fuel and firm your mindset – whether you believe it or not!
